Is the Great Wall Visible From Space? 🌍

3 min read

Morning Great Walls!!

The Great Wall of China..

..is the ONLY manmade object you can see from space.

There ain’t no way..

Because 2,000 years ago.

Before China was China.

You’ve got all these rival kingdoms:

Building little defensive walls made from mud:

To protect themselves from–

Oof!

Ya, other nomadic tribes from the northern steppe.

This is happening a lot.

So China’s first emperor (Qin Shi Huang) unifies the country, and he’s all like:

So they do.

With HUNDREDS of thousands of soldiers, peasants, and prisoners.

But later emperors don’t care about the new wall so much.

So it kinda just starts decaying:

Untillll the Great Ming Dynasty shows up!

These guys come into power by rock-em and sockem-ing the Mongols away.

Then they turn the Great Wall into what we know today..

3,700 miles of fortresses:

Barracks:

And signal systems:

But the Great Wall’s like 20ft wide..

That’s smaller than a highway

Which of COURSE you can’t see from space!
