Backward Hats Are Medieval

3 min read

Morning Kendrick!

Yes, right there!

You know that cool backward hat look?

Gah, that is so cool.

Turns out, it's actually... MEDIEVAL!

Let me take you back to the 1300s...

Fashionable Europeans start wearing these silly hats everywhere:

Boom. The bycocket!

A soft felt hat with a long pointed bill to shade your face from the sun and rain.

And they were EVERYWHERE!

Worn by merchants, hunters, and nobles alike.

But there's a problem...

When you wore a bycocket with the stupid point sticking straight forward…

Ya. The long point gets in the way of... EVERYTHING.

So some clever medievals start flipping them around backward.

Like this angry little guy:

And our pal Robin Hood!

Rocking the backward bycocket :)

Perfect for an outlaw who needs to see clearly through the woods to shoot arrows and avoid the Sheriff's men.

So that rebellious backward hat vibe?

Ya, it never went away.

And next time someone tells you to turn your hat around?

Just tell them you're honoring 700 years of tradition!

Stay Cute,

Henry & Dylan 🌈
