Ever find yourself dozing off, thinking some nice little thoughts?

Then out of nowhere you’re..

Derd dreaming of falling

Falling off the Empire State Building and jolting yourself awake?? LOL.

Or maybe you show up to a school exam...

Derd dreaming in school

Completely naked…

Derd dreaming in school naked

For a class you forgot you were taking?

Derd called out for being naked in school

Oh, and you forgot your locker combination, too?

Derd reaming about forgetting locker combination

Nightmare.

Turns out, EVERYONE has these exact same recurring dreams. And they might not be as random as you think...

But WHY do we dream??

Well, it was 1952.

University of Chicago’s sleep lab.

This yon Jerry’s all like:

So they start monitoring people's brains while they sleep.

Most of the night, your brain activity is pretty chill...

But then, something CRAZY happens!

So they wake him up…

Every single time researchers wake someone during this phase of sleep, their subject reports vivid, detailed dreams!

And BOOM! They discover:

But hang on.

Now we've got an even bigger problem on our hands…

We’ve discovered REM sleep and the vivid dreams it produces.

But WHY do we do all that dreaming stuff during the REM phase of sleep? What’s the point??

Well, it's turned into a full-on academic war.

On one side, you've got the "Dreams Are Useless" team:

In the other corner, the "Dreams Are Life-Saving" team:

But then there's a third group just chilling off to the side...

Now we’ve got all three research teams arguing:

But what if there's something even MORE mind-blowing about why we dream?

The truth might be stranger than any of these scientists imagined...
